TEAM LEXII was diagnosed at 14 years old, I had signs of severe vision loss, weight loss and general sick feelings. These seemed to come on suddenly but I did have some symptoms for years prior that were typical onset of type 1. Symptoms looked like fatigue and dehydration. Once I had elevated blood sugars that would not come down. After a hospitalization and over the past 2 years I have transitioned from 7-10 shots a day to moving on to an insulin pump which created an easier way for me to get my insulin.

The pump pumps insulin into my body all day long through a port in my body. I still have to "finger prick" and test blood sugars all day long in order to treat highs and lows in which can sometimes be really hard to manage. These can change my day and activity levels on a greatly.
Type 1 diabetes means watching for danger signs that lead to extreme high or low blood sugar, which are both medical emergencies. I work hard every day at managing it all, counting carbs, checking blood sugars and insulin delivery all while being a regular teenager. I'm still able to live my life and do things like other teenagers as long as I take care of my diease. This year is my second year taking part in the Central MA Step Out: Walk To Stop Diabetes.
